Holy cow, somebody tell Mikey we’ll get another thing before GTA 6: according to Sony’s latest State of Play event, 007 First Light, James Bond’s return to the gaming world, will come out just before Rockstar’s next Earth-shattering game.
And the release date is not the only thing we got to tell you about: there were leaks (as it has become something of a custom around any State of Play, truth be told) and a lot of confirmed info we took quite a while to put together.
So, you know, the least you could do is give it all a read, so make sure to check out below for all the latest scoop on the game.
007 First Light details: is it worth it?
What is it about
It’s James Bond, people: it’s spy stuff. Well, mostly. As the name implies, 007 First Light is actually an origin story for the legendary MI-6 agent. It’s being done by I/O Interactive, so if you watched the gameplay reveal video above and was wondering why does this feel a bit like “Hitman except the agent isn’ bald”, that’s why.
The comparison with the Hitman franchise is not just a meme either: from the stealth sections to the car chasing sequences down to the full on gun fights, there’s a lot of Agent 47’s DNA on this iteration of James Bond.
So we’re assuming 007 First Light will set itself apart with some good plot, yes? Well, we hope so, because story details were not fully given: you’re playing as James Bond when he was 26 years old and not really a “00” rank agent—the game’s mission is the one that, once successfully completed, will grant him that status.
It is, however, an original story, so don’t expect any Casino Royale gamified versions. I/O is hoping it will do well enough to justify a trilogy, so there’s that. Also, 007 First Light brings a nice cast: while the titular James Bond will be played by Patrick Gibson (of Dexter: Original Sin fame), some other names include Priyanga Burford (M), Kiera Lester (Moneypenny), Lennie James (Greenway), Noemie Nakai (Miss Roth) and Alastair Mackenzie (Q).
When will it come out
According to today’s State of Play, 007 First Light is set to release on March 27, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2.
That’s about two months before GTA 6 so, unless some delay happens, it won’t be among the games that will probably be buried under Rockstar’s widely anticipated release next year.
Specific configurations for the PC version were not disclosed at this time—not that anyone really expected that, since this is the kind of information that comes out closer to launch. But one can speculate Steam and/or Epic Games Store digital releases.
How much will it cost
Seventy bucks. That’s kind of a load off, given the industry’s comments on how pricing should be increased for games over the last few years.
However, that price goes for the standard edition (which is called “Specialist Edition” and does come with a few, in-game extras) only, and 007 First Light will bring about a Legacy version that has some more stuff…and some more weight on its $300 price tag.
By the way, even though the official launch is still a ways off, preorders have started as soon as the State of Play event started—Amazon is handling that, and you can make your purchase here for the Specialist Edition ; or here for the Legacy Edition.

But yeah, that’s pretty much it for now, so here, have a gallery:
