Mortal Kombat and Spider-Man will beef up PlayStation Plus catalog on August 19

PlayStation Plus Catalog Update - August 2025

It’s mid-August, time for another PlayStation Plus catalog update and, according to Sony, this month’s looking juicy: after listing Lies of P and other titles on its regular monthly update, it’s time to check out the stuff that will come out specifically for subscribers of the Premium and Extra tier plans (prices listed at the end of this article).

And this is one opportunity to beef up your collection, as the PlayStation Plus catalog will be updated with some major heavyweights: Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Mortal Kombat 1 are, of course, the main highlights; while PlayStation classics such as Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis also grace the Japanese platform.

There are some other interesting offers in between as well, all starting tomorrow, August 19th. Check out below and tell us which one you like the most in the comments:

Premium and Extra

Mortal Kombat 1 (PS5)

A complete reboot on Netherrealm’s franchise’s lore, Mortal Kombat 1 puts Liu Kang as Earthrealm’s divine protector, shaping a new reality where old rivalries and friendships get twisted into a new interpretation of the brand’s backstory, down to each individual kombatant

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (PS5/PS4)*

Gaming’s most definitive take on a Spider-Man game yet, Marvel’s Spider-Man is one the most memorable titles portraying the old Webhead as a protagonist. The remastered version is exclusive to PlayStation 5, while PlayStation 4 users will get the Game Of The Year edition (both come with all post-launch DLC).

Sword of the Sea (PS5)

It’s a sports game with an epic backstory, all in one: in your journey to restore a lost ocean, you surf across giant waves, gaining momentum to pull off major tricks, all inspired by skateboarding, snowboarding and surfing above the all-powerful “hoversword”.

Earth Defense Force 6 (PS5/PS4)

A fun third-person shooter that mixes the age old recipe of action adventure with both solo and online components. In this game, humanity’s been reduced to a shred of its size, and you take the role of an EDF soldier that must fight through a new form of alien invasion from the same enemies of the previous games: the “Primers”—also, time travel, for some reason?

Unicorn Overlord (PS5/PS4)

You can’t really go wrong with anything the Vanillaware/ATLUS combo has touched, as Unicorn Overlord comes from the same guys who made Odin Sphere and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. In this game, you’re seeking to regain control of your kingdom through an epic, medieval RPG setting that blends contemporary exploration elements to a tactical combat mechanic, all packed up neatly with an anime-like painting art style that does justice to the JRPG genre.

Atelier Ryza 3 Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key (PS5/PS4)

Speaking of RPG’s, Ryza’s latest adventure also comes to PlayStation Plus paying subscribers in the form of “Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key”: in this game, the protagonist—Ryza—is investigating a new group of islands that showed up near her hometown, assessing if it is a threat or not. In there, she finds a ruined structure with a huge gate, while a voice beckons her to “reach the Code of the Universe”. As for what that means, you’ll have to play the game to find out.

Indika (PS5)

A game that promises to bother your overzealous, religious mother, Indika is a third-person story driven game where you take on the role of the titular character, a seemingly monotonous nun who’s just cruising through life on a monastery, but with an uncommon ability: Indika can talk to the Devil. This capacity of conversing with the ol’ goat’s head leads her into a journey of self discovery and a lot of philosophical clashing between one’s spirituality and faith against real life’s most practical elements.

Harold Halibut (PS5)

A certain group of humanity, fearing extinction through an impending cold war, created a huge, city-sized spaceship that left Earth some 250 years ago in search of a new home. Crashed at the bottom of the ocean of another planet. you take on the role of Harold, a lab assistant who, alongside the lead scientist Jeanne Mareaux, work tirelessly to see your mission through, even though the rest of the crew has already settled in the perception that the underwater city-ship is the new home you’ve all been looking for.

Coral Island (PS5)

Ditch the city life for a more coastline adventure, gathering resources in the game to rebuild a small community and creating meaningful relationships with characters and the nature that surrounds you all. Build farms, craft items and structures out of resources you gather with intelligence and create a new future for your character and those closely related to them.

Premium

Resident Evil 2 (PS5/PS4)

You know the story by now: two months after the events of the first game, newly-assigned Raccoon City Police Department’s office Leon Scott Kennedy makes his way to one hell of a first day on the job, as the city is just lousy with virus-infected, flesh-eating zombies. In parallel, Claire Redfield, sister to the original Resident Evil’s protagonist Chris, also enters the city to find her missing brother. This is the original game, released on the first PlayStation many years ago, updated with features like quick-saving and modern video filters for scaling and graphics.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PS5/PS4)

Another one of Capcom’s classics, Nemesis runs in parallel to Resident Evil 2, as, in another part of Raccoon City, former S.T.A.R.S. member and key character of the first game, Jill Valentine, rushes through the city for a way to escape its impending destruction, all while being chased by Nemesis, a new form of Tyrant, created specifically to hunt and kill S.T.A.R.S. personnel who, by now, “know too much” about why Racoon City became zombie-infested.

Game Trials

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach

PlayStation Plus subscribers will also have access to an expanded trial for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Hideo Kojima’s sequel to his “FedEx-simulator-with-existential-philosophy-musings” twist. Don’t get it wrong, we reviewed it and it is a great experience. But we do have to recognize that Kojima’s style is a demanding one, so this trial brings a good opportunity for you to experiment most of the game’s new features without committing to actually purchasing it beforehand.

PlayStation Plus prices and plans

As with all subscription-based services, everything you read above is “free” on PlayStation Plus, as in you pay for a timed-fee to have access to all services with no additional costs. Here are the prices and plans you need to pay to take on all of the above games.

Bear in mind, though: the PlayStation Plus catalog is exclusive to Premium and Extra members, so take that into account.
