Death Stranding 3 might be a thing already

Death Stranding 2, a Gme of the Year 2025 contender

Minor spoilers on Death Stranding 2 inbound!

Bilawal played the second and loved it, but it seems he’ll already have to pay attention to the series future, as it was recently hinted that Death Stranding 3 already has a concept, although it might have a different head in its creation.

That comes from Hideo Kojima himself, by the way, as he told in a PlayStation-backed stream in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that he already has a concept for a third game in place, but and he entertains the notion that he will not take the reins of its development this time.

A Kojima-less Death Stranding 3?

Yup. The statement came from Kojima when he was explaining why did he choose Australia as one of the main settings for the second game:

“I wanted an area that was sprawled from east to west like America and also somewhere that faced the ocean to the north and south. In that case, Eurasia or Africa felt like too big of a continent, but in terms of size and scale, I felt that Australia was a good fit.”

After that, he dove in on the concept of “Plate Gate”, which, according to him, is something that would allow him to “create endless sequels”.

“If I use this Plate Gate concept, I could make endless sequels! I, of course, don’t have any plans to do that, but I already have a concept for another sequel. I am not going to make it myself, but if I passed it on to someone else, they could probably make it.”

Connecting everyone in Death Stranding 2 review

This is not necessarily new, as Kojima has stated something similar back in May. But the fact that he’s repeating it three months later—and after most of Death Stranding 2’s launch works are behind him—shows that the man might be dead set on moving on to other projects.

I mean, he still has that “OD” thing he’s doing with Jordan Peele, among other things.

As for Death Stranding, the game that might now be a trilogy is also getting the movie treatment, thanks to a partnership between Kojima Productions and movie studio A24.

Granted, because Kojima is Kojima, anything potentially involving a “Death Stranding 3” will take many years to come to fruition—between the first and second games of the franchise, we had a 6-year wait give or take, so we should probably hold our Sam Bridges-shaped expectations on this one.
