Respawn Entertainment has officially announced that the Apex Legends Nintendo Switch version will shut down this year. The studio has not specified the reason behind the decision, but it is clear that it wants to focus on the current-gen console Nintendo Switch 2. It revealed that Season 29 will be the final Apex Legends season available on Nintendo Switch. All future seasons starting with Season 30 will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 for Apex Legends players on Nintendo.
Apex Legends Nintendo Switch Shut Down Confirmed for August 4
The official announcement reveals that Apex Legends will stop working on Nintendo Switch on August 4, 2026. This will pull curtains over a five-year journey for the game on the first-generation Nintendo Switch. Players will have until the deadline to play the game, participate in competitions, and earn rewards. This means if you are a Nintendo Switch player, you do not have to upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 right away. You still have about six months to make that purchase.
Since all your in-game progress, purchases, Apex Coins, cosmetics, and earnings are connected with a player’s EA account, everything will be saved and carried forward to Nintendo Switch 2 and other supported devices. The only thing you will need to do is to make sure you use the same EA account on the device you want to play. One thing to remember is that local law in some regions requires players to use digital currencies within 180 days of purchase. If you are from one such region, you will need to be mindful of the same.
Respawn has made it clear that Apex Legends Nintendo Switch players will continue to receive all updates and new content until the deadline, similar to the Nintendo Switch 2 version. The game’s online servers will be taken down on August 4, after which, the game will become unplayable. The last date for purchasing in-game items and currency is August 3. Even if you decide not to buy the Nintendo Switch 2, your Apex Legends account will continue to be active. You can choose either to get the new gaming handheld or simply move to some other supported device that you already own.
