Sony just announced a re-release for the limited edition Astro Bot DualSense controller that brings the titular droid’s visual motifs. It is a mildly updated version of the same accessory launched in 2024, based on the at that year’s Game of the Year winner.
Note that we did say “mildly updated”, since the only change for this new version is a new, “Joyful” design that…doesn’t really change much: while the previous one had the featured character’s eyes lighting up the touchpad, this new Astro Bot DualSense controller will have the same feature, albeit a new, “happy squinty” look for the eyes.
It’s supposed to make it look like Astro Bot is smiling, because it is joyful. Did you notice?
As for the rest, it is pretty much the same product: white and blue color scheme—the latter, mostly on the grip handles and back cover, while the triggers shy away from the original DualSense color scheme, going for an all-white look.
According to Sony, preorders start on September 12, at 10 a.m across all timezones, on selected retailers. Deliveries are set for over a month later, on October 30th. At the time of this writing, pricing was not available, but the original launch was asking for $79.99, so it would be smart to prepare for a similar price.
If you missed your chance to grab the first one, this might seem like a good grab if you’re into limited edition stuff. Otherwise, you can look for the first model on marketplaces like Amazon, although we did a basic search there and, aside from some accessories and PS5 bundles, we found nothing.
