It has been a while since we last talked about Battlefield 6, and now we have a pretty big reason to do it again, as publisher Electronic Arts (EA), alongside Battlefield Studios, have shed the light on the game’s Season 2 Roadmap.

And what an update it is: the blog post went live a few hours ago, but it comes with a bunch of new content outlining and a new, first-look trailer to boot. And that’s all very welcoming: after one hell of a start and a big upper hand against its major competitor (which is on the verge of getting a Season 02 of its own, in fact), the game did lose some of its shine with the new season’s delay and a lot of fan criticism towards REDSEC.

The whole thing is set to go live February 17, 2026, at 4 a.m. PT, taking the narrative of a global conflict of 2027 into the mountains of Germany and beyond. This season, titled in part by the rise of Pax Armata, will be delivered in three distinct phases: Extreme Measures, Nightfall, and Hunter/Prey.

So read on below to find out all the details

The Story So Far: Pax Armata is Winning

Through the first season, Pax Armata successfully sowed chaos at Fort Lyndon by arming both sides and activating sleeper agents. While NATO was distracted, Pax’s elite intelligence unit, Panopticon 8, infiltrated the Hagental Airbase in Bavaria. Their goal? To secure NATO’s retaliation plans, which involve a terrifying new weapon: VL-7 psychoactive smoke. Now, players must fight through the fog of war as this experimental chemical begins to distort the battlefield.

Phase 1: Extreme Measures (Launching February 17)

The first phase of Season 2 brings the “Extreme Measures” update, introducing hallucinogenic warfare to the franchise.

New Map: Contaminated

Set in the European mountainside, Contaminated is a sprawling German airbase where players must evade psychoactive smoke while fighting over crucial satellite intelligence. This map is comparable in size to classics like St. Quentin Scar and Arras, offering intricate flanking routes and plenty of opportunities for vehicular destruction.

The VL-7 Psychoactive Smoke

The biggest gameplay twist this season is the VL-7 smoke. Unlike traditional gas, it does no damage; instead, it causes hallucinatory effects that distort your vision. In the VL-7 Strike Limited-Time Mode, all players are equipped with masks, but you’ll need to find extra filters around the map to stay focused in the fray.

REDSEC Free-to-Play Content

REDSEC isn’t being left behind. The Battle Royale mode will be engulfed by VL-7 smoke leaking from synthesis sites in Fort Lyndon, where players can earn VL-7 Strike Packages to disorient enemies. Additionally, a new knockout-style mode called Gauntlet: Altered State will challenge squads to complete missions while navigating these mind-bending effects.

Phase 2: Nightfall (March 17)

On March 17, the lights go out. Phase 2, Nightfall, shifts the focus to low-visibility, tactical combat.

New Map: Hagental Base

Taking inspiration from legendary maps like Metro and Locker, Hagental Base is an infantry-focused, underground facility built for close-quarters ambushes and intense squad play.

Nightfall Limited-Time Mode

This mode transforms Hagental Base into a “corridor of darkness”. Every soldier gets Night Vision Goggles (NVGs), but be careful—bright light sources like flashlights or overhead fixtures can temporarily blind NVG users.

REDSEC Expansion: Defense Testing Complex 3

REDSEC players will see Fort Lyndon expand with a new Point of Interest (POI): Defense Testing Complex 3. This underground network of tunnels is perfect for traversing the map in secret, though most exits are sealed, leaving rappel lines as your only escape from the closing circle.

Phase 3: Hunter / Prey (April 14)

The final phase of the season, Hunter / Prey, arrives in mid-April. It features a narrative-driven limited-time mode called Operation Augur, where players determine the final fate of Hagental Base.

New Hardware: Weapons, Vehicles, and Gadgets

Season 2 is packing some serious heat. Here is the breakdown of the new arsenal available through the Battle Pass and seasonal updates:

New Weapons

  • GRT-CPS (DMR): A fast-firing marksman rifle that trades raw damage for controllability and high ammo capacity.
  • VCR-2 (Assault Rifle): A Balkan-made bullpup that acts like an SMG with high-caliber rounds, perfect for close-quarters but tricky to control at range.
  • M121 A2 (LMG): A powerhouse built for suppression and wiping entire squads, though it has a heavy recoil and long reload.
  • CZ3A1 (SMG): Returning in the Nightfall update, this legendary SMG boasts a blistering 1,000+ RPM fire rate.
  • VZ.61 (Sidearm): A compact machine pistol that brings full-auto fire to your secondary slot.

New Vehicles

  • AH-6 Little Bird / MH-350: The legendary scout helicopter returns to both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. It’s a “glass cannon”—fast and maneuverable with deadly miniguns, but highly vulnerable to ground fire.
  • M1030-1 Motorbike: The fastest land vehicle in the game, arriving in the Nightfall update.
  • LTV (Light Tactical Vehicle): A nimbler alternative to current light vehicles, arriving in Phase 3.

New Gadgets

  • 9K38 IGLA (Engineer): A MANPADS system that requires a constant lock-on but can re-acquire targets if they deploy flares.
  • HTI-MK2 Hardware Suppression System (Recon): A pure disruption tool that can intercept missiles and destroy up to three electronic gadgets with a single pulse.

Quality of Life and Challenges

The Game Update 1.2.1.0 introduces hundreds of fixes, including a major recoil tuning pass for automatic weapons and infantry traversal improvements.

For players who missed out on previous content, Season 2 introduces the Season 1 Catch-Up Challenge Set at Career Rank 20, allowing you to unlock hardware like the GGH-22 Sidearm and SOR-300C Carbine. Finally, don’t miss the Year of the Horse celebration from February 17 to March 3, featuring themed rewards and limited-time bundles.

Battlefield 6 is available for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.
