Kojima Productions 10-year anniversary stream was full of new reveals—some crazy cool, some crazy weird

Kojima Production is turning 10, fellas! As we reported earlier this month, the studio founded by legendary game creator Hideo Kojima after his stressful exit from Konami celebrated its decade anniversary in an event called “Beyond The Strand”, making a whole bunch of announcements—and in true Kojima fashion, some of them are quite interesting, while others are interestingly bonkers.

So, without further ado, here’s every announcement made at the event:

Beyond The Strand: Everything Announced

Due to the fact that Kojima is Kojima, not everything announced on the studio’s 10-year anniversary event is related to gaming, per se. I mean, their new credit card brings the possibility to pay for getting plastered on their new sake brand—something to look forward to, but not exactly actionable on PlayStation 5, right?

Still, there was a lot of interesting stuff that came out of Kojima Productions first decade birthday celebration. Stuff like…

OD

OD is a new horror game from Hideo Kojima’s studio, developed in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios and filmmaker Jordan Peele. The project is being pitched as a new way to blend interactivity and storytelling, and a three-minute trailer gave us a first look. The footage showed a red door and mysterious, redacted text, hinting at a sinister plot. The game’s subtitle is “Knock,” with a focus on exploring the fear of a knock at the door.

Development is “well underway,” and the game’s cast includes Sophia Lillis, Udo Kier, and Hunter Schafer. Kojima himself also mentioned wanting to travel the world to film scary locations and even “scan a ghost for the first time.”

Physint

This is an upcoming stealth-action thriller for PlayStation that is currently in its conceptual phase. During the showcase, a mysterious poster for the game was revealed, featuring a character shrouded in darkness holding a gun, along with the tagline “Here comes the feeling.”

The event also announced a portion of the cast, including Don Lee, Charlee Fraser, and Minami Hamabe. A brief but hyper-detailed tech demo was shown of Hamabe’s character in the game’s engine.

Death Stranding: Mosquito

This is a new animated spin-off movie with the working title “Mosquito.” It is being directed by Hiroshi Miyamoto and written by Aaron Guzikowski, with Kojima serving as a producer. A trailer for the project was revealed, showcasing an art style with heavy linework and desaturated colors, which is intended to differentiate the film from the games.

The film’s main character is not Sam Porter Bridges, and the working title is a nod to their unique ability to “suck something really important” that isn’t blood.

Update on the Live-Action Death Stranding Movie

Director Michael Sarnoski provided a brief update on the live-action Death Stranding project done in collaboration with A24 film adaptation, reassuring fans that the project is still moving forward. The goal is to capture the soul and themes of the game while telling a new story with new characters not seen in the original games.

Sarnoski emphasized that the team wants to do justice to the game on both a “micro and macro scale,” by exploring nuanced characters and using incredible real locations. The movie is being made to be enjoyable for both fans and those new to the franchise.

Soooo…no real update to speak of: we still have no clue on settings, dates, cast and everything else involved.

AR Project with Niantic

Kojima Productions is partnering with Niantic Spatial, the team behind Pokémon Go, on a new augmented reality (AR) game. The project’s goal is to go “beyond the screen” and redefine immersive entertainment by bringing new forms of storytelling to the real world.

Kojima teased the project as being like “the real Death Stranding in the real world,” where players can connect with people and their actual surroundings. Niantic Spatial’s head, John Hanke, hopes the project will bring people together.

Credit Card and Sake

Lastly, in what can be summarized both as the “Wait, what?” and “Oh, wait: it’s Kojima” sections of the stream, Kojima Productions made a couple of announcements that expand the brand beyond gaming: the first is a partnership with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) to launch a brand-new credit card, set to release sometime in 2026’s second half, featuring both physical and digital payment support.

Info on this is scarce, as the project is still in its early days, but the teams behind both companies are working some of the usual kinks, like card designs, loyalty/points systems, how to earn rewards and country availability.

Oh yeah, a kojima productions credit card, of course. Makes sense. What.

It can be speculated that a Japan launch might be the initial part of a larger plan: while MUFG is a major card issuer in the Asian nation, it does not have the power to launch a credit card in other countries by itself—what it can do, however, is partner with other card providers like Visa or Mastercard to release a kind of localized version of its product. I guess it all depends on consumer adhesion: if it does well in Japan, then Europe and the West are a stone’s throw to get into later. But again, we’re just spitballing here. Nothing confirmed.

The second announcement is a collaboration with Shimizu Seizaburo Shoten to produce a personal brand of sake called Zaku Ludens. Hideo Kojima commented on this collaboration by stating that he believes the details are a key part of the creative process. Considering how nuts his games have turned out in recent years, one can imagine playing Death Stranding 2 in a hammered state of mind should make for a very…unique experience.
