Remedy Entertainment has shared a fresh look at Control Resonant, its next game set within the shared Control and Alan Wake universe. It released a new gameplay trailer at State of Play that takes us closer to the action taking place in a warped Manhattan, New York. It also offers a good glimpse at Dylan Faden and his special abilities. The trailer ends with teasing a new reality-bending cosmic entity called Resonant.

Control Resonant Gameplay Details

While the predecessor Control (2019) was set inside the FBC headquarters, the upcoming Control Resonant will take the action outside to the roads, streets, and buildings of New York. However, Remedy is quick to clarify that this does not mean it is an open-world game. It is set in large, distinct, and expansive zones.

The new Control Resonant gameplay trailer starts off in one such zone called the West Incursion Zone. Our protagonist, Dylan, is on a hunt for a Resonant, a cosmic entity that has the ability to change reality. Its effects are visible throughout the zone as you will notice buildings and structures being upside down or sideways. For those who might not recall, Dylan is the brother of Jess Faden, our protagonist in Control, and the same side-character that players spent almost the first half of the game looking for.

Dylan has various supernatural abilities that will help him overcome the challenges of the warped Manhattan, as well as help him traverse from one zone to another. One such ability is Shift that lets him adapt to different physics-bending structures and use them as ground for battling enemies. Dylan also has a shape-shifting melee weapon called Aberrant. It can turn into a hammer, fists, scyth, and more depending on what kind of threat you are dealing with. Players will be able to unlock more forms, abilities, and combos as they progress.

Lastly, Remedy has teased Resonants, one of the game’s powerful boss enemies. These are described as “remnants of people who once held great power, now corrupted and twisted by the same mysterious force threatening reality itself.” These powerful creatures are crucial to the gameplay as defeating them is the primary way for Dylan to expand his arsenal of supernatural abilities. Control Resonant is set to debut on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC this year, but a specific release date is currently missing.
