These are all the Predator games for you to play before watching the new movie

So, Predator is back with a new movie called “Predator: Badlands”, this time introducing Dek, a Yautja youngling trying to earn his stripes on a distant planet full of things that are very keen on giving him the worst possible welcome this side of the galaxy (or whatever side that planet is, to be honest).

IGN reviewed the movie and gave it a solid 8 out of 10 and, as much a fan as I am, I’ve yet to enjoy the new Hollywood flick, so I took it to gaming to itch all the metal, ejectable claws and shoulder cannon scratches on me just to get me in the right mindset.

And it turns out, there’s a whole lotta games about the character out there. Like, a lot a lot, and much like the most recent ones, they’re quite fun. Some of these I didn’t even know about, and some others I completely forgot existed in the first place. That’s why I’m bringing this to you, dear reader, so we can reminisce about the entire brand together.

Every Predator game ever

In between officially licensed games and crossovers, we’re talking 39 games total, spanning nearly four decades of the three-dot laser sight presence in our videogame platforms. Like I said, some of these were unknown to me, and it took me some research to include them on the list below.

Granted, some of those titles are repeated. However, gaming in the late 80s and early 90s were not a globalized phenomenon like it is today, so a lot of the same releases had months — even years — apart in some cases, but we did say “Every” game, didn’t we? So we’re highlighting those too.

Alien vs. Predator Games

Few people actually know this, but the Predator-Alien connection was made much, much earlier than the first Alien versus Predator movie. Unofficially recognized at the time, Predator 2 (1990) showed us a glimpse of the iconic Xenomorph in a spaceship, suggesting that the Predator race (by then, yet to be widely referred to as “Yautja”) were their original hunters.

The first media to explore this connection, albeit not canonically recognized at the time, was Dark Horse Comic’s “Alien vs. Predator” (1989), that played with the idea of pitting the two incredible movie monster aliens against one another through a back story that loosely flirted with the “hunter-hunted” topic.

The original AvP movie, in 2004, was actually the first piece of media to bring the eponymous confrontation to the mainstream spotlight, effectively ushering the complex canon that both alien races share nowadays.

In gaming, there have been fourteen officially licensed video games released in the Alien vs. Predator franchise. The first game to cross the two franchises was Alien vs. Predator, released in September 1993, which was based on the aforementioned comic book series. But there were others too…
