Fallout 76 is free for one week on PlayStation 5. Yup, that’s the news: as a way to celebrate the return of the Fallout TV show on Amazon Prime Video, Bethesda Game Studios has decided to nix the online game’s price completely for a period of seven days.
It is worth noting that Fallout 76 is probably one of the most notable “turning-things-around” cases in gaming, apart from Cyberpunk 2077, that is: the game’s demo arrived in early 2018 and…well, it had abysmal performance, both in gameplay structure (it was a buggy mess) as well as storytelling (which, granted, is not the forte of any online, open-world game, but still…).
Since then, Bethesda took the negative feedback like a champ and turned things around, bringing content that actually catered to the brand’s fanbase, making Fallout 76 one of its most successful endeavors.
Nowadays, the game is just shy of 14,000 concurrent players at the time of this writing, with a 24 hour peak of 15,800 and an all time high of 73,000 (thanks, SteamDB!)
And now it’s freeeee…until December 23rd.

In Fallout 76, you’re in the shows of a resident of Vault 76, 25 years after a nuclear fallout (heh) that devastated the Earth — yup, it’s a prequel set in an alternate reality compared to the other games. You basically leave the Vault on Reclamation Day and set out to w rold of adventures.
Granted, this is Fallout we’re talking about, so do know that “adventure” is not being applied here in a cutesy meaning. Much like the other games in the brand, pretty much everything is designed to kill you, so be ready to forage, collect resources, build weapons, shelters, interact with people who may or may not stab you in the back etcetera, etcetera.
The game is usually priced at $40, so this sale comes at a great time, given the Holiday Season spendings and all.
Oh, right: Fallout 76 is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
