A “Fortnite Gulag” might be in the works for the world’s most famous MOBA shooter, at least according to notorious-but-reliable leaker “Shiina”, who shared some screens of what it seems to be a “Restarter Island”.
The system is not entirely unknown — and the “Gulag” reference attests to it: apparently, “Restarter Island” is a system not entirely unlike what we see in Call of Duty: Warzone — essentially, a separate map so players can engage in 1v1 fights for the right to respawn on the main match.
You can see the post Shiina made on X (and the screens right after it, for the sake of safety and preservation):

Now, if we’re taking pages from the Warzone playbook, these matches won’t necessarily be shootouts, but minigames that may or may not involve shooting. Some of the information available mentions things like “Shockwave Deathmatch”, where you’re supposed to knock opponents off using splash damage and knockback effects, for instance (thank you, Blorzten!)
Others mention things that are far more “in-the-known” for the uninitiated, like “Rock, Paper, Scissors” and some sort of race using bats. That, of course, besides the usual 1v1 shootout itself.
Both leakers have stated that this “Fortnite Gulag” is still in a very early stage of development, so it is highly unlikely publisher Epic Games has anything to say about it at the moment.
Fortnite just recently released a new, Chapter 7 update that adds a ton of new content to it (which we talked about here), so I wouldn’t expect any focus to be on its so-called “Restarter Island”. Still, both Shiina and Blorzten are pretty reliable, and usually get it right on the rumors they propagate.
So if you’re looking for the inside scoop on this “Fortnite Restater Island”, it may be a good bet to keep this news on the back pocket for now.
