After making us wait a good number of years for its main release, Hollow Knight Silksong now wants to get new stuff out fast…and free? Yes, thank you, very much! In a new blog post on its website, Aussie development studio Team Cherry has confirmed one of the best games this year (and Best Action Adventure Game category winner on the Game Awards) is getting a new, free DLC expansion later this year.
“When” is “later”, you ask? Well, this year, sometime. It’s not like they have all the details jotted down yet. But we do get a cool trailer introducing Sea of Sorrow, Hollow Knight Silksong’s first major content update, which we’ll breakdown below after the video below:
Here’s everything we know about Hollow Knight Silksong: Sea of Sorrow
As updates go, Sea of Sorrow promises to be one of the good ones. Unlike patch packages, which tend to correct mistakes and fix overall bugs, content expansions improve the materials in the main game with more stuff to do.
In this case, we’re talking about a new area, with new bosses, quests, collectibles and hours upon hours of dedication and strategy for you to break your fingers trying to figure out how to handle the difficulty.

Overview and Availability
- Sea of Sorrow continues the adventure Hornet with new tools, new enemies and missions in a more nautical theme.
- The expansion is currently in development.
- It is scheduled to release sometime in 2026.
- Hollow Knight: Silksong – Sea of Sorrow will be coming free for all players.
Future Information
- Team Cherry intends to keep further details about the expansion a secret for now.
- Additional information is expected to be provided shortly before the release of Hollow Knight Silksong – Sea of Sorrow.
Aaaand…that’s the gist of it. As of now, there’s not much to say about Sea of Sorrow, as the Hollow Night Silksong devs at Team Cherry prefer to keep things under wraps for future, hopefully larger announcements.
But the good stuff about it — its price (or rather “no price”) — and the fact that the new content is already in a good state of development can only mean that the new expansion might come earlier than we expected.
If you needed a reason to pick up Sillksong again, this is as good as any.
Hollow Knight Silksong is available for Linux, macOS, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
