Marvel Games and NetEase have published the patch notes for Marvel Rivals Season 4, titled Heart of the Dragon, with the main content launch set for September 12, 2025.

And there is a lot to pay attention to: this new season not only updates and expands several contents already in place for the game, but also introduces a new, major map and a new hero for players to master.

Make sure to read on and see everything you’ll need to stay ahead of your opponents!

Theme and story context

Marvel Rivals Season 4 frames its content around a multiversal convergence called the Heart of Heaven, where ancient capital cities — led by K’un-Lun — have been drawn together.

According to Marvel, this season connects to ongoing in-game story threads, mentioning characters and events tied to the wider narrative, which all explains why this season’s new content is more related to an eastern-fantasy setting of sorts.

New hero: Angela (role and how she’s presented)

Angela is in the house, people! The official announcement brings Thor and Loki’s older sister to the playable roster, positioning her as a Vanguard. And judging by the picture below, she’ll have abs as comical as Emma Frost has thighs.

This means her actions emphasize  high impact mixed with unprecedented mobility: Angela will most likely be used as a front-and-center damage dealer that will make the most of her “weapon-shaping” abilities—while mostly known for her masterful skill with a spear, she’ll also use a liquid-metal substance (called “Ichor”) to change that into dual-wielding axes and a shield, making her gameplay a bit a of an attacking jack-of-all-trades.

She won’t be all offensive powers, though, and the character should also bring some defensive abilities (thus the shield) and area-clearing abilities. One in particular sees her plunging down on enemies from above, which can be a battle-ender or also work to give a losing team some breathing room to escape and regroup.

All in all, her kit presents her as a frontline, impact-oriented hero built for reach and team utility.

New map and modes: K’un-Lun and the Arcade Mode hub

Marvel Rivals Season 4 also includes a new Convergence map titled K’un-Lun: Heart of Heaven, which Marvel states will launch on September 25, 2025.

The update also restructures and expands game modes via an Arcade Mode hub that brings several event and casual modes into a single place.

Among the changes called out are Free Fight (no duplicate-hero restrictions), a Conquest (Annihilation) variant that scores via KOs, and the permanent return of fan-favorite modes such as Clone Rumble and Giant-Size Brain Blast inside the Arcade hub.

Team-Ups, hero tools, and quality-of-life updates

This season also introduces a new Team-Up ability and updates existing Team-Up interactions, designed to broaden coordinated play between heroes in the game.

Marvel also highlights a Favorites Bar that lets players pin and quickly select their most-played heroes at hero select, which is an onboarding and convenience improvement aimed at streamlining match setup for new and returning players alike.

Finally, the announcement briefly references broader matchmaking and ranking updates described in developer communications.

Events, cosmetics and the student costume trial

Cosmetic content and seasonal events continue in the new season. Marvel has confirmed the return of the costume trial program for university students, this season offering a new batch of ten costumes and related MVP rewards; students access these perks by verifying a university email address.

The official update positions cosmetics and trials as part of the seasonal engagement plan rather than changes to core gameplay.

Marvel Rivals Season 4 lands on all available platforms (PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X) on September 12, while the K’un-Lun map comes on September 25.
