Longtime and legendary game maker Peter Molyneux is back in the headlines, as IGN published an interview with the creator of Fable — and one tid bit of it kind of stands out, regarding the game called Masters of Albion.

According to Molyneux himself, the game is supposedly a trilogy, divided in three “epic” chapters, in which the very first is a classic hero tale, in Peter’s own words. “It starts as a classic story of a hero coming and finding his power. There was an adversary who was doing something awful. There was a confrontation. It’s a classic,” he says.

“There’s going to be love, loss, hate, and betrayal in that first episode of the story. So it is a complete game. We are just thinking bigger rather than, right, this is the game. That’s it. We’ve always been thinking about this bigger story.”

Now, it has been a while since we heard anything regarding Masters of Albion, but it never was promoted as part of a trilogy, so that’s pretty big news.

Having said that, Peter Molyneux did also reminisce about his time working on Fable and other games on his very large resume, and mentioned his tendency of “overpromising in the past” and this bringing problems for him in contemporary years.

Molyneux also stated that Masters of Albion will be his last game, as habits of drinking and smoking have caught up to him and, while he is in no life-threatening situation that we know of (we did lose Tomonobu Itagaki, Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden mastermind, fairly recently, after all…), he feels he no longer has the energy to take on such large endeavors in the industry.

As for the game itself, it was originally revealed in Gamescom 2024, signed off by Molyneux’s studio, 22Cans. It does bear “Albion” in the title, but it is currently unknown if it takes place in the Fable universe, in which most games take place in the country of the same name. It will come out in April 22nd, 2026, and it will be focused on the betterment of a settlement called Oakridge, where you’ll be able to control its villagers in first person view during the day, building things and improving the overall day to day of the place.

At night, the gameplay shifts to the player taking control of the settlement’s heroes, in order to defend it against monsters and evil forces.
