Hey, guess what? Nintendo hosted another stream today, and much like the last one, Silksong was not among the Nintendo Direct announcements for September, 2025.
What they did announce, though, looks very promising, as it covers a lot of bases: a new Super Mario movie is confirmed, there’s going to be a plethora of remasters and new releases—even the (in)famous Virtual Boy is making a comeback of sorts!

Alright, let’s get into this. Like we said, there’s a lot of ground to cover, but this is one Nintendo Direct that made a lot of fans from the Japanese giant pretty happy, as some of the company’s most prominent IPs are getting an update one way or another.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Nintendo and Illumination confirmed a new theatrical Mario film inspired by the Galaxy games. The announcement included a concrete theatrical date of April 3, 2026 and noted returning principal cast members as part of the reveal.
Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2
Nintendo announced remastered editions of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Nintendo Switch (and Switch 2 compatibility), offered as a double-pack and individually. The collection was dated October 2, 2025, and the Direct also teased Galaxy-themed amiibo and a Rosalina storybook tie-in.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder coming to Switch 2
A dedicated Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder was revealed, adding a multiplayer hub called Meetup in Bellabel Park and Switch 2-specific enhancements. Nintendo placed this edition in a Spring 2026 window and teased related “Talking Flower” merchandise.
Mario Tennis Fever

Lynked: Banner of the Spark — brand-new RPG
Nintendo revealed Lynked: Banner of the Spark, a brand-new RPG that mixes turn-based combat with a social-link system, drawing comparisons to both Fire Emblem and Persona. The trailer emphasized character relationships as a core gameplay mechanic. No release date was announced, but it was confirmed as a Switch exclusive.
Kirby Air Riders — new amiibo and launch tie-ins

Final thoughts: Nintendo is kicking the Switch 2 into high gear
Judging only by the list above, it seems Nintendo is going for a safe bet: the Switch 2 hasn’t been out for that long, but the console is now picking up a lot of steam—and the Nintendo Direct announcements for September, 2025 shows that the company is ready to go all hands on deck with the hybrid console.
Not that the company gave any room for thinking it will also drop the older Switch right now, obviously, but considering its shift of focus to the new platform and the fact that Holiday season is right around the corner, now might be a good time for you to start thinking about getting an upgrade.
