You might wanna hold off on the Switch 2 update (version 21.0.0) that Nintendo has put out in the wild: according to a lot of people (thanks, Kotaku), the new file is breaking third-party docs for the hybrid console, rendering them inoperable with the platform.

Originally, this Switch 2 update should bring some systemic bug fixes and quality of life improvements — according to Nintendo, version 21.0.0’s biggest change was the addition of specific symbols to determine the nature of a game (if it is a physical or a digital copy).

All in all, a pretty run-of-the-mill update.

However, many users — including youtuber AustinJohnPlays, who tested out two different products that stopped working completely after the update — claim that their third-party docks are showing difficulties in transmitting the video feed to their TV sets, if not ceasing and never restarting transmission altogether.

Complaints are already causing an uproar as they find their way towards many high-traffic areas of the internet, such as Reddit and GameFAQs.

The entire situation sucks for Switch 2 users, especially considering that docs stations were pretty much the first accessory available from third-party vendors even before the console was out — Amazon has a whole page dedicated to them, so we’re talking a big chunk of the market here.

Sadly, because Nintendo likes to take things oh-so-very-slowly, there’s no official word from the company as to when the issue will be solved, let alone a workaround to it, so for now, the best recommendation is to stay away from the update altogether.

That’s not a total dunk on Nintendo, by the way: these things are far more technical than they let on, and it’s unlikely that the Switch 2 update broke third-party docks on purpose — it’s far more probable that the docks themselves are not up to date on whatever new stuff Nintendo has put out with the version 21.0.0 itself, so this whole situation might get sorted out by itself in the end.

Still, to see something like this happen is rather…childish for all parties involved.

And here was I thinking I’d finally be able to play Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero on the damn thing… (the game comes out today of all days).
