We are barely a few weeks away from the release of Resident Evil Requiem. Fans of the series are eagerly awaiting this new title, as it will be the first Resident Evil game to be released in five years. The game’s story is once again set in Raccoon City and features dual protagonists: Federal agent Leon S. Kennedy and an FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft.

If you are curious what Resident Evil games are worth revisiting or replaying to be well prepared for Requiem, we are here to help. You should play these Resident Evil games to prepare for Requiem.

Resident Evil Games to Play Before Requiem

Resident Evil

Resident Evil

Resident Evil is the first game in the iconic franchise. Its story will give you an idea about the origins of the T-Virus and the Umbrella Corporation. Its story takes place in Spencer Mansion, infested with zombies and mutant creatures. You get to play as S.T.A.R.S. agent Chris Redfield or Jim Valentine, who visit the mansion for investigation. Capcom released Resident Evil HD Remaster in 2002, which you can play on modern consoles. This virus outbreak eventually expands to the whole of Racoon City that we get to see in the future games.

Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 2 is the game that introduces us to Leon S. Kennedy, a rookie police officer who will return as a veteran in Resident Evil Requiem. This game will give you a better understanding of the T-Virus outbreak in Raccoon City and how things are changing. Its story is primarily made from Leon’s perspective, but you can also choose to play from the perspective of Clair Redfield, a secondary character. Its remastered version for modern consoles was released in 2019.

Resident Evil 3

Resident Evil 3 is not exactly essential to prepare for Requiem, but if you have the time and you want to, it is worth playing. It features Jim Valentine, who is also stuck in the middle of the Raccoon City virus outbreak, but in a different region than Leon. Her objective is similar to RE 2, which is to find a vaccine and escape the city. It is important to note that RE 3 events take place before RE2, but end after. The game’s story wraps up with the destruction of Raccoon City. The game received a remastered version in 2020 for modern-age consoles.

Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4’s story has nothing to do with the Raccoon City incident, but it gives you a closer look at Leon S. Kennedy’s character. It takes place about six years after the events of RE2. It means you will get to see how Leon’s character has changed since the virus outbreak. It will also give you an idea of why Leon is such a popular character among Resident Evil fans. Capcom released its remastered version in 2023 for modern consoles.

These are the Resident Evil games that you should play while you wait for Resident Evil Requiem. If you want to cover all bases, I would recommend you watch the story summary of Resident Evil 6, Resident Evil Outbreak, and Resident Evil Outbreak: File 2 on YouTube. Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst, will make her Resident Evil series debut in the upcoming game.

Resident Evil Requiem will release on February 27 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
