It’s undeniable that the PlayStation 4 (PS4) is at the end of its life. Originally released in November 2013, the black, bathroom tile-shaped console has been one of the industry’s go-to sources of gaming fun for over a decade. But alas, everything must come to an end, and with the PlayStation 5 getting all the modern-day attention, it’s time for the last-gen platform to fade into obscurity.
Or so you thought: despite having definitely reached the end of its cycle, the ol’ PS4 is still getting games released to this date. Granted, we’re no longer talking about major, AAA titles like Battlefield 6 since, you know, they’re developed for current gen platforms, by current gen dev kits.
Still, the PS4 has some pleasant surprises up its sleeve, so read on and check out which games are coming out for it next week:

When Will PS4 Support End? Here’s the 2026 expected shutdown timeline and services affected
The PlayStation 4 might still be getting new games, but as much as we love to give it the proper value, Sony has already confirmed that, yes, the console is on its last days.
We’ve talked about how studios and publishers are gradually dropping support for the PS4 — and how some might do it in the near future — but it hits kinda differently when it’s Sony itself making the announcements…
Which the Japanese giant did last October, reportedly: according to internal documentation Sony distributed to employees and partners (thanks, Insider Gaming!), the PlayStation 4 support will officially begin phasing out sometime in Spring 2026. Granted, devs and publishers have been notified in advance, with some reportedly aware of the timeline below as early as August this year.
Anyway, here’s a breakdown of the PlayStation 4 sunset, starting with its core services and straight through its official “death”.

PlayStation 4 services being phased out in 2026
- Trophies: New PS4 games will no longer include trophy support, meaning players won’t earn achievements for gameplay milestones.
- Friends List Integration: Games will lose access to the PSN friends list, affecting social features like friend invites and matchmaking.
- Messaging: In-game messaging between players will be disabled for new titles.
- Multiplayer Matchmaking: Online matchmaking via PSN will no longer be available for new PS4 games, limiting competitive and cooperative play.
- Leaderboards: Global and regional leaderboards will be removed from new releases, affecting score tracking and rankings.
- Game Invites: The ability to send or receive game invites through PSN will be phased out.
Expected “time of death” for the PlayStation 4
- January 2026: New PS4 games lose access to the six legacy PSN features listed above.
- Throughout 2026: Existing games may begin losing access to these services, depending on publisher support.
- Late 2026 to 2027: Broader PS4 service shutdowns expected, including potential changes to PlayStation Plus support and access to the PS Store.
