Capcom is reportedly continuing its trend of modernizing the classic Resident Evil catalog, with new rumors giving room for a possible Resident Evil 0 Remake for 2028 — which would itself be followed by another, similar project: a Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake which is supposedly coming out a year earlier.

These news comes from two unconfirmed sources, although there is some weight behind them as they line up nicely with previously reported stories on several outlets. The first one’s MP1st, who heard from its sources about both projects.

The second one is actor Jon McLaren’s resume, who’ll — allegedly — be cast on one of the remakes. McLaren’s no stranger to gaming, having lent his chops to the Guardians of the Galaxy video game a while back (he played StarLord).

His resume mentions specifically “Project Chamber (Upcoming AAA game)”. We do know that this is the codename Capcom is using internally to refer to “0” (“Chambers” is the surname of one of the original game’s protagonists, Rebecca Chambers, the other being escaped convict Billy Cohen).

Originally, Resident Evil 0 was set 24 hours before the events of the franchise’s first game: in its introduction, the game shows us the Ecliptic Express — a train owned by Umbrella Corporation — under attack by strange, leech-like creatures. Two hours later, the Special Tactics And Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S., a tactical unit embedded within the Raccoon City Police Department) sends its Bravo Team to investigate a series of strange murders taking place in the Arlçay Mountains, north of the city. While en route, agent Rebecca Chambers and her team’s chopper has an engine failure, which leads to her investigating the now motionless train.

Inside, she faces the now zombified passengers, who fell victim to the exposure of the T-Virus innoculated on the leeches. Eventually, she meets Billy Cohen, a former Marine Force Reconnaissance soldier who’s sentenced to death for his alleged killing of 23 people. The van transporting him crashed nearby.

Bear in mind, we’re being light on details on purpose. While Resident Evil 0 is an old game, much of its story connects to titles that came before and after it, so you should definitely play it to learn its lore.

While rumors should always be taken with a grain of salt, GamesRadar has been reporting on both of these topics since at least May, and in our experience, whenever a rumor gets repeated in such a short interval, it usually means it does hold some water. Also, the game did get the update treatment a few years back: originally released in 2002 (for Nintendo’s GameCube), a Resident Evil 0 remaster came about in 2016 for PlayStation 3 and that generation of platforms too.

Granted, because Capcom is Capcom, there’s no official comment on these new rumores, and there likely will be none for now, given the fact that the Japanese publisher is all hands on deck for the next big Resident Evil release: Requiem is due to February 26, 2026 — and that alone already has some unconfirmed big stuff on its own right
