So, Devolver Digital, through the PlayStation blog, has confirmed that Skate Story, its neon-trippy-looking celestial skating game, will come out on launch day on PlayStation Plus.

Sony has yet to unveil the list of games that will grace its subscription platform, but now we have the first confirmation through the arguably most popular indie publisher in the business. Not that this is unheard of — Stray did the same a few years ago — but it’s still nice to see paying customers actually getting something in return for their money.

And, not to ring Devolver’s bell or anything, but Skate Story does look interesting. We’ll let you be your own judge after watching the trailer below, but color PRG curious about this one:

Not only the visuals look trippy, but this one’s actually got a plot behind it, too: you’re a crystalline humanoid-looking character that got into it with the Devil. As part of a deal made with the ol’ goat feet, you have to skate from “The Emptylands” to the Moon.

Because reasons. This is Devolver, after all: it’s not like any premise coming from them actually needs an explanation, just a concept crazy enough it might work.

The post on PlayStation blog has some more details, courtesy of a deep-dive they had with the title. There’s mention of racking up tricks against bosses, a bunch of gameplay takes and, oh, right, a release date: Skate Story will be out on the PlayStation Plus catalogue (Extra and Premium memberships: see our explainer for a full breakdown of PS Plus tiers) on December 8.
