Welcome to Stray, where you play as a street smart kitty navigating through a post apocalyptic neon lit world. If you’re a cat lover, stray is the ultimate wish-fulfillment game. Feels almost as though they took my own orange cat and put him into the motion-capture suit for a day then made it into a game about a robotic dystopian city with a cat traversing it.
The only issue really with Stray, at its core, is that playing as a cat seems completely superfluous. You could very well have just played a the lost child trope and it would’ve made little different to the plot. There’s just enough to do in the ways of side content if you so please, but the main goals are enough to keep you satisfied for 4-5 hours. The game holds a decent amount of secrets and discoveries and plot beats to keep you engaged for its running time. The main ingredient is its selling point though, playing as the cute little rascal after falling into this blade runner looking city. It’s a fun world it inhabits with a unique spin on the genre. As bizarre as it might sound, it’s definitely the best cat platformer out there, in terms of physics and overall adorableness.
Verdict: 8/10 (meowtastic)
