The Game Awards ceremony is known for tons of nominees and major, end-of-year reveals and 2025 looks no different: as several leaks have stated earlier, the so-called “Oscar of gaming” will reveal Tomb Raider’s future during this year’s transmission, scheduled for December 11.
The news was confirmed by TGA’s own host and chairman, journalist-turned-entertainer Geoff Keighley, in a X post published in his own profile:
Tomb Raider’s future may or may not be a new game
While we’re all banking on the franchise getting a new title, you may notice that Keighley’s words are intentionally evasive, as he hasn’t told us the nature of Tomb Raider’s future in his posting.
A new game, however, seems to be the case, since earlier reports and leaks published on Reddit have stated that Lara Croft’s return to stardom won’t be in the form of a new entry, but a complete remake of the original Tomb Raider. The one released in 1996.
These leaks come from an account called “Raiders Society”, who claims “anonymous sources” have told them/showed them the news. The posting even has an image that, at this moment, we can’t really say if it falls on the “made with AI” or the “official although not yet formally revealed” categories. They also clarify that, due to source protection, they were unable to link the news piece anywhere.
It is important to note two things: Raiders Society have got things right and wrong in the past, so betting on this rumor to pan out might be risky. Also, let us all remember the fact that the original Tomb Raider is not only fully available on Steam, but it also already has both a remake and a remaster — and that’s before and after the 2013 series reboot.
No wonder the news was not as well received on Reddit as it could’ve been.
Either way, no interesting party involved with Tomb Raider’s future has formally commented on the matter.
