Oh hai Mark
Dive into The Room: The Game, a fan‑made point‑and‑click adventure based on the cult film. Play as Johnny in a retro‑styled San Francisco, tackling everything from shopping to boss fights in this unexpectedly polished 8‑bit RPG adaptation.
Johnny the lovable banker has everything a man could ever want. A great career, a beautiful future wife, a handsome best friend named Mark, and a love of the world and everyone in it. How could any hardship befall this Saint of a human being? Well it turns out life is full of twists, turns, betrayal and heartbreak. His future wife, Lisa, is a heartless, unlovable, selfish sociopath. His best friend Mark, a reckless, disloyal backstabber. Johnny’s whole world is about to come crumbling down, which really begs the question…. Can you really trust anyone?
The Room is a flash point and click adventure title based on the infamous film of the same name. While it’s only a fan made game, this might just be one of the greatest and most on point ( pun intended) adaptations of any film ever. You play as Johnny, walking around and living in a little slice of San Francisco. While the game is small in scope, the setting feels lived in and had much love, effort and passion into building it. It has a gorgeous 8 bit style and sound design and is a total home run.
The main component of the game is point and click, but there is a surprisingly decent amount of variety to keep the gameplay interesting. You will have your simple task such as- buying flowers, coffee or a dress for Lisa and playing football with Mark and your friends. This game, believe it or not, actually has boss fights and they are actually designed very slick. During boss battles, the game shifts to a JRPG turn-based style, complete with taunts, stuns, and attacks. Side quests are present as well-find all the things Johnny wishes he could unsee and find all the hidden spoons to unlock the true ending.
The Room is a cultural phenomena in the realm of so-bad-it ’s-good entertainment and this game is one of the greatest fan tributes ever made. Any fan of the film will love this title and everything it has to offer. Beautiful retro graphics, sound design, and surprisingly fine tuned gameplay. The best part? This game is completely free and you should totally play it, like right now.
