Tigger’s Honey Hunt

Tigger’s Honey Hunt

A Wholesome Memory

Lately, I’ve been caught in a strange haze of nostalgia. Maybe it’s the looming approach of 30, or maybe it’s just one of those seasons where the past feels closer than usual. Whatever the reason, I found myself dusting off old memories. Specifically, a little-known game from my childhood: Tigger’s Honey Hunt for the N64. (Was also on the PS1 but I didn’t have one at the time)

It wasn’t a blockbuster. It wasn’t a game kids brought up in heated playground debates. But for me, it was a quiet, comforting adventure – one that, for some reason, has stuck with me all these years. There are plenty of other, objectively better games from my childhood that I could reflect on. Games with tighter controls, deeper mechanics, and, you know, actual lasting cultural impact. But for some reason, this is the one that bubbled to the surface of my memory. Not Super Mario 64, not Ocarina of Time, not even Banjo-Kazooie (My actual favorite game ever). Nope. My brain decided that Tigger’s Honey Hunt was the one worth revisiting. Maybe it’s because nostalgia works in mysterious ways, pulling up the weird, forgotten corners of our past when we least expect it.

Booting it up again after all these years felt like opening a time capsule. The whimsical music, the soft pastel colors, the way Tigger bounced with an effortless charm. It all came rushing back. I didn’t just remember playing a video game; I remembered being a kid, sprawled out on the floor, gripping a chunky N64 controller with my hands that were still too small for it. Back then, I wasn’t analyzing mechanics or level design. I wasn’t worried about difficulty spikes or camera angles. I was just a kid, helping Tigger collect honey pots because his pal Winnie the Pooh needed them for a party. And honestly? That was enough. But revisiting it now, with all the baggage that comes with growing up, I started to wonder – was this game even any good, or was I just blinded by childhood nostalgia? So I did what any self-respecting adult would do: I acquired a copy through perfectly legitimate means, fired it up, and prepared to relive a simpler time, one honey pot at a time.

Objectively speaking, Tigger’s Honey Hunt isn’t exactly a masterpiece. The controls are a little floaty, the level design is basic, and the difficulty swings wildly between “mind-numbingly easy” and “unreasonably cruel for a game about a stuffed tiger.” But you know what? I was a kid – I didn’t care. Tigger could have been bouncing through a JPEG of someone’s backyard with floating platforms, missing textures, and Owl T-posing in the distance, and I still would’ve been having the time of my life. I wasn’t there to question the game’s integrity – I was there to hop, collect delicious honey, and vibe. Tigger’s out here fueling Pooh’s sugar addiction as some unpaid bouncy delivery service, and honestly, I’m okay with that – because in the Hundred Acre Wood, that’s just what friends do for each other.

And of course, no Winnie the Pooh adventure is complete without the gang: Piglet’s nervously tagging along, probably thinking he’s about to be stomped into a pancake by Tigger at any moment. Eeyore’s sulking in the background, being emo as always and acting like the whole honey quest is just another sign that the world’s out to get him. Rabbit’s probably planning some overly complicated scheme to organize the honey pots, because of course he is. It’s a lovable mess, but exactly how it should be.

The game is short, cozy, and wrapped in that warm, wholesome charm that Winnie the Pooh always brings. There’s no grand adventure, no world-ending stakes – just a silly, bouncy tiger on a quest to gather honey for his best buddy’s party. The music is soft and cheerful, the colors are bright and inviting, and the whole experience feels like curling up with a well-worn storybook. It’s the kind of game that doesn’t ask much of you, other than to enjoy the delightful ride – and sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.

M-I-Double-Kh-A-I-L, that’s-
