Comedic co-op horror game YapYap launched earlier this month, and it is already sparking the kind of viral chaos TikTok and Instagram thrive on. The main reason is one of its most entertaining mechanics: spells.
In YapYap, you play as a wizard alongside four other players, using voice chat commands to cast spells that trigger different effects inside a procedurally generated tower. The goal is simple on paper. Survive three days inside the building. In practice, things spiral quickly.
Like any game built for chaotic fun, YapYap hides a number of secret spells that are not listed anywhere in-game. You are meant to discover them through experimentation, often at the expense of your friends.
Not all of these hidden spells have been uncovered yet, but the list of confirmed ones is already fairly extensive. Below is a compilation of what players have discovered so far, so you can jump in with a bit of an edge.
YapYap’s Known Secret Spells
- Wand of Winds: By using the spell “Up-Dog” and then repeatedly saying the word “dog,” players can receive up to three extra boosts to their airtime while levitating.
- Grotesque Wand:
- “Dub Piss-Yuk”: Saying “dub” before the standard acid throw spell creates a double stream of urine.
- “Oculus Piss Tempest”: This complex hidden spell creates multiple streams of urine simultaneously, resembling a fountain.
- Achoo/Piss-Yuk interaction: These spells can be used to inflate slime balls until they explode.
- Wand of Illusions:
- “Poof You”: By substituting “Me” with “You,” players can transform other players or even enemies into props. This is particularly useful for throwing strong enemies off the map.
- “Poof Anima”: This spell allows a player to take direct possession and control of a target object.
- “Azul Bro”: Used to draw dancing glyphs on surfaces, which can serve as markers for teammates.
- “Float Oculus” Secret: Beyond scouting, this spell can be used to take over an enemy target.
- Astral Wand (“Offer” and “Trade”): This two-part secret involves using “Offer” to place a star marker on a target (player or monster) and then using “Trade” to swap positions with that marked target.
- Wand of Fire (“Ignis Balls”): This spell transforms the player into a fireball and propels them forward. It deals damage to enemies upon impact, but can also hurt the caster.
- Blessed Wand (“Merci”): A secret dash spell that brings the caster closer to allies and provides a small amount of healing.
- Wand of Telekinesis (“Float Nulla”): This causes a target object to lose gravity, allowing it to float freely when pushed or thrown.
- Wand of Minor Arcana (“Ana Teleport”): A variation of the standard “Teleportana” that teleports the player downwards instead of into the air.
- General Secret Emote: Saying “Good Boy” triggers a secret animation where the player’s character pets the air.
How to Discover Secret Spells

The discovery of these secrets is a result of both in-game clues and external community investigation.
- The Tower Spellbook (Grimoire): Players can find hints about hidden mechanics by consulting the spellbook located upstairs in the tower while holding a specific wand in their main hand. For example, the book uses exclamation marks (“!!!”) to hint that the volume of a player’s voice affects the strength of certain spells, such as the flow of “Piss-Yuk”.
- Voice Volume and Microphone Interaction: Some “secrets” are not new words but physical interactions. Increasing the volume of your voice (yelling) into the microphone significantly increases the flow and range of the Grotesque Wand’s urine stream.
- Word Recognition Lists: The game displays recognized words at the bottom of the screen. The community has compiled lists of these recognized terms—such as “Dub,” “Anima,” “Azul,” and “You”—and experimented with combining them or substituting them into known incantations.
- Logical Command Substitution: Many secrets were found by applying logic to existing spells. Since “Poof Me” is a standard spell for the Wand of Illusions, players successfully experimented with “Poof You” to see if it would affect others.
- File Exploration: Technically inclined players have discovered spells by looking into the game’s local files. Specifically, the localization directory (..\steamapps\common\YAPYAP\yapyap_Data\StreamingAssets\Vosk\Localisation) contains files that list the spells recognized by the game’s voice system. Looking at these files is safe, so no worries about breaking the game or anything (just don’t try to edit them).
- Community Collaboration: Discussion hubs on Reddit and Steam serve as the primary grounds for sharing accidental discoveries. Players often report seeing others perform strange feats, leading to collective testing until the exact voice command is identified.
YapYap is available exclusively for PC, both Windows and macOS.
