There’s really no other way to open this: one of the biggest, best RPGs of all time — Baldur’s Gate 3 — might have a Switch 2 version in the works. And, well, that’s it, really.

The news comes from reliable leaker “NateTheHate”, who claimed on X, while answering a question from a follower, that he has indeed seen “something” about Baldur’s Gate 3 on the Switch 2. However, the leaker — who, in the past, nailed event dates and information about Nintendo Direct and State of Play — said he still needed more solid confirmation before sharing any material.

Despite coming out originally in August, 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 is still being worked on by the good people at Larian Studios. Recently, the game came out, natively, on Steam Deck and, before that, a Xbox Series S version came around (although, as GameSpot notes, that one was a rather troublesome endeavor for several reasons).

A Switch 2 version of Baldur’s Gate 3 is not really a new speculation: in June (same time when the Switch 2 came out), Nintendo’s community had already flirted with the notion of the game coming out to the then-recently-released Japanese hybrid console, due to the fact that Etsushi Iizuka is mentioned in the credits of the game.

Iizuka is a developer, and much of his body of work involves porting multiplatform titles to Nintendo’s gaming environment. He’s partially responsible for Marvel Ultimate Alliance coming to the console, for instance, having a thankful mention for it in the credits of that game as well.

Also, many Reddit threads discuss the potential of a Baldur’s Gate 3 Switch 2 version. It is worth noting, however, that Larian does not have a strong track record in Nintendo relations: the last game from the Belgian studio to come out on any of the Japanese publisher’s platforms was Divinity: Original Sin 2, which came for the original Switch em 2019.

Evidently, as rumors go, there’s no official commentary about this anywhere, so take this with a grain of salt, okay?
