Valve has rolled out a sweeping gameplay update for Deadlock, introducing a long list of balance adjustments that affect core systems, objectives, items, and heroes. The May 22, 2026, patch represents one of the game’s largest gameplay shakeups so far, with changes aimed at pacing, survivability, and overall match flow.

Among the broad gameplay adjustments, all heroes have received a slight reduction in durability, with base health reduced by 10 across the board and health gains from boons also lowered. Objectives are also becoming easier to pressure early in matches, as Guardians will now scale from +50% resistance instead of +75%, allowing teams to deal more damage in the opening stages of a game.

Map flow has also been altered. Medium neutral camps will spawn earlier at the five-minute mark, while breakables now appear later. Valve additionally removed two outward-facing jump pads near the center of the map and introduced movement tweaks, including changes to wall jump stamina regeneration and sprint interactions.

One of the patch’s biggest experiments comes through a major redesign of the Soul Urn system. Rather than requiring players to channel while standing still, the Urn can now be picked up using melee attacks and delivered to a central bridge location. Teams can actively contest the deposit process, creating a more dynamic objective that may encourage prolonged fights and comeback opportunities. Valve said it is actively seeking player feedback on the updated mechanics.

The item ecosystem also saw extensive changes. A new Tier 1 vitality item called Grit has been introduced, granting players a temporary barrier and passive out-of-combat regeneration. Dozens of existing items also received buffs, nerfs, and functionality adjustments, affecting everything from cooldowns and damage scaling to survivability and utility.

Hero balance was another major focus of the update. Characters such as Abrams, Grey Talon, Paradox, Rem, Yamato, and Venator received notable buffs in several abilities, while others including Bebop, Kelvin, Pocket, Shiv, Victor, and Warden saw reductions in power or adjustments designed to rein in stronger builds.

Several heroes also underwent mechanical reworks. Apollo’s Riposte ability now functions differently, requiring players to manually target enemies after a successful parry, while Grey Talon’s Rain of Arrows ability has been restructured to make it faster and more frequently available.

Beyond balance updates, the patch includes a large collection of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements. Valve addressed issues involving ziplines, visual effects, ability interactions, item behaviors, and targeting inconsistencies across multiple heroes.

The latest patch appears aimed at refining Deadlock’s competitive experience while testing broader design changes that could shape the game’s future development. With revised objectives, altered pacing, and substantial hero tuning, players may need time to adapt as the meta begins shifting once again.
