The 2026 remake of Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly is finally here. Developed by Team Ninja, the same studio behind Ninja Gaiden 4, this version rebuilds the 2003 survival horror classic for modern platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X|S.
A big part of the experience is expanding the wardrobe for twin protagonists Mio and Mayu Amakura. You unlock outfits through story progression, gameplay milestones, and technical mastery.
There’s a wide range of costumes available. Some are earned through play, while others come from special editions or early purchase bonuses. Here’s how to get them all.
Outfits You Unlock Through Gameplay

These costumes are tied to in-game achievements, difficulty completions, and endings. Most of them must be purchased later through the Point Exchange menu after being unlocked.
Outfits Tied to Endings
- Pink and Blue Summer Cardigans: Rewarded for completing the “Sprouting Wings” ending.
- Yae’s Kimono (Mio) and Sae’s Kimono (Mayu): Unlocked through “The Abyss” ending, which requires completing all side stories and collecting specific spirit stones.
Outfits from Difficulty & Full Completion
- White Kimonos: Available for purchase after completing the game on Nightmare Mode.
- Summer Cardigan (White) and Summer Sweater (Black): Standard variants found in the Point Exchange.
- Skirt and Blouse Variants: Includes “White Blouse + Black Skirt” and “Blue Blouse + Checkered Skirt,” unlocked by completing the Ghost List and Chapter Select challenges.
- T-shirt Variants: Casual outfits like “Black T-shirt + Dark Checkered Skirt” and “Pink T-shirt + Grey Checkered Skirt.”
Promotional and Edition-Exclusive Outfits

Unlike the unlockable outfits, these outfits were distributed as incentives for early adoption or are exclusive to premium versions of the game. Some of these, like the Early Purchase Bonus Set and the Digital Pre-order Bonus Set, are no longer available since, you know, the game has been out for a while. However, buyers of the Digital Deluxe Edition can still get some special wardrobe additions to their Fatal Frame II experience.
Early Purchase Rewards (Limited-Time)
Available to those who bought the game by March 25, 2026.
- Kimono (Red) for Mio
- Kimono (Black) for Mayu
- Peony Hair Ornaments (Red and Blue)
Pre-order Bonus Outfits
For players who pre-ordered before launch on March 12, 2026.
- Crimson Butterfly (Original): Classic outfits from the 2003 version
- Cat Ears (White and Black)
Digital Deluxe Edition Outfits

Upcoming Collaboration Outfits

Beyond the content above, Koei Tecmo has also confirmed a robust post-launch roadmap featuring unlockable outfits from other horror and mystery franchises.
- Silent Hill f Collaboration: This highly anticipated crossover will introduce free costumes for Mio and Mayu themed after the “floral horror” or floral rot aesthetic of Konami’s Silent Hill f.
- Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse: Scheduled for mid-2026, this collaboration will feature costumes based on the mystery series by Square Enix.
Are the Outfits Worth It?

The remake does a solid job of honoring the original while updating it for modern audiences. The costume system reflects that balance, offering both nostalgia and new content.
It may not rely on constant jump scares like some modern horror titles, but it makes up for it with atmosphere and a rewarding progression system that keeps you engaged long after the first playthrough..
