Square Enix announced earlier today that its upcoming multiplayer murder mystery action game, Killer Inn, will launch into Steam Early Access on February 12th, 2026.
To prepare for — and also celebrate — the launch, the Japanese giant behind names like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest will host a “Free Stay Weekend” starting this Friday (Feb. 6th), offering players a final opportunity to test the game at the prohibitive cost of zero munnies Yup, for no cost at all, you’ll get to try Killer Inn one week before its release, exclusively on Steam.
What’s Killer Inn about
According to the official synopsis, Killer Inn places 24 players in a mysterious castle where they are secretly assigned the roles of either Wolves or Lambs. This is the first detail of importance, as Wolves will hunt and kill Lambs, while Lambs will do…well, anything they can to survive.
Mostly, the survival of the Lambs will depend on stealth and clue-gathering — fingerprints, hair samples, clothing scraps, etcetera — in order to identify who’s a Wolf. Once that killer is identified, then the third-person shooter part of the game comes into play, with Lambs using weapons and unique abilities to corner and take out said killer.
The fun bit is that you, as a Lamb, get to team up with other players for a team effort for the sake of murder-stomping Wolves.
How to the Free Stay Weekend
Players can participate in the free trial by accessing the game via Steam during the following window:
- Start Time: Friday, Feb. 6, at 2:00 p.m. PT / 5:00 p.m. ET.
- End Time: Monday, Feb. 9, at 1:59 p.m. PT / 4:59 p.m. ET.,.
As an incentive, anyone who joins the free weekend or participated in previous closed betas will receive an exclusive weapon skin and a nameplate banner when the Early Access version releases. Additionally, the development team will host a live talk on the game’s official Discord channel on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m. PT to discuss the upcoming launch.
Speaking of which…
