Rockstar Games has officially confirmed the release of upgraded Red Dead Redemption for current-gen consoles, Nintendo Switch 2, and mobile devices. The announcement came soon after initial reports and rumors surrounding the release started to emerge online. The new upgraded version of the decade-old game wil deliver performance improvements, visual enhancements, and the ability to carry over save progress. Here are all the details you should know about.
Red Dead Redemption Upgraded Version Coming Next Month
The upgraded version of both Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare will arrive on December 2. It will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, Android, and iOS. The mobile version will feature touchscreen-friendly controls and will also be available through a Netflix subscription. The new version will also be available through PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and GTA+ subscription on the release day.
The cult-classic video game was first released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. It was eventually released on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in 2023. PC gamers had to wait the longest as the Windows version was finally released in 2024.
Red Dead Redemption Upgraded Version: What’s New?
Rockstar has announced the Red Dead Redemption upgraded version will run at 4K 60fps on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It will further offer enhanced image quality and HDR support. Nintendo Switch 2 owners will also get to enjoy the game at buttery smooth 60fps, along with DLSS, HDR, and mouse controls support.
How to Get Red Dead Redemption Upgraded Version for Free?
The Red Dead Redemption upgraded version can be grabbed for free if you own its PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, or digital backward-compatible Xbox One version. The free upgrade will be available digitally upon the game’s release on December 2. The best part is that PlayStation and Nintendo Switch players can carry over their game progress to the new upgraded version.
For the uninitiated, Red Dead Redemption’s story takes place after the events of Red Dead Redemption 2, despite the latter being released eight years after. The latest announcement about the upgraded version should make RDR2 fans hopeful that they might receive a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version sooner rather than later.
