SEGA’s Sonic Racing CrossWorlds has reached its millionth sale, according to the Japanese publisher’s latest fiscal presentation. But for the company, that’s not enough, as it seems focused on doubling that number still in this fiscal year.
That statement comes from SEGA itself, by the way, whose latest numbers were released and, while admitting that the initial performance of the game was below its expectations, it seems positive on the game’s continuous growth as it gets ready to release its Switch 2 version.
“We recently announced that worldwide cumulative sales have surpassed 1 million units. However, initial performance did not meet our expectations, and we are aiming to sell approximately another 1 million units within this fiscal year. We aim to sustain long-term sales by encouraging players to enjoy the game over time through the continued support of the title including ongoing release of additional downloadable content.”

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds was one of our favorite attractions at Brasil Game Show, last October — our very own Mr. Manfredo and I got to play a very chunky session of it and, although it was a demo made for the show, the entire experience made us leave with a smile. We’re not alone in that perception as the game currently sits pretty with a 100% positive player rating on OpenCritic.
While this million-sale mark is not comparable to competitors like Mario Kart World (which sold 2 million units in Japan alone and more than 8 million globally according to September, 2025 numbers, it is important to note that SEGA’s numbers are, as of now, slightly outdated, since the final figures still need to tally other versions like, again, the Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Switch 2 release.
Furthermore, the report also mentions old IPs as a tool for SEGA to find its footing after difficulties pertained to entering the live service space. Apparently, the company entertains the idea of revisiting names like Golden Axe and Crazy Taxi in some fashion in the near future — and there is also an Alien Isolation sequel that came to be a full project by Creative Assembly after much clamor from the fans.
Yup, it seems SEGA is a good track for now. Whether it is the right track, time will tell…
