It seems Polish publisher/developer CD Project Red is not ready to let go of Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as multiple outlets are reporting on a new rumor about the 2015-released title: apparently, Geralt of Rivia will be back in a new, story-based DLC set in either Zerrikania or Kovir.

The idea, at least according to the unconfirmed rumors from several sources, is to release the new DLC as a “hey, look, a surprise” type of moment, since the game is already confirmed to have a final patch to be released later this year — cross-platform mod support, in this case.

You know, kinda like the late Steve Jobs used to do in his Apple keynotes — the “one more thing” stuff older people who were there on the original iPhone or the Macbook Air announcements can tell you youngsters about…

And when we say “several sources”, we mean several: Polish games insider Borys Nieśpielak and Noble Securities analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski have said so more than once, as well as IGN Poland claiming that this has been in the works for quite some time now.

Witcher 3 new DLC: what we know so far

Well, for starters — and we’ll state this once again: these are unconfirmed, uncommented rumors at least for now — it seems Geralt of Rivia will still lead the story proceedings on this new DLC.

Story-wise, we don’t know what this Witcher 3 DLC is about, but it is supposed to take the legendary monster hunter and political scandal solver to Zerrikania or Kovir — both of which are cities Geralt has had many dealings in the past, if the brand’s books are any indication.

While CD Projekt Red has taken many elements from Andrzej Sapkowski’s original work, it is a known fact that the gaming branch of the Witcher franchise has taken a life of its own, following stories and plotlines not seen in the books. Sapkowski himself stated in the past that the games are not canon-friendly, so the plot — much like the entirety of the three (soon to be six) games — can go anywhere and everywhere.

As you know, Witcher 3 had two major DLC — 2015’s Heart of Stone and 2016’s Blood and Wine expansions (the latter of which was always treated as Geralt’s “retirement” of sorts). Both were highly praised by critics and users, all of which pointed out how they bring a great closure to Witcher 3’s story.

Now, the thing about this new DLC is that its rumors started swirling around the same time CD Projekt Red delayed the game’s final patch: the mod support across all platforms was supposed to come out in 2025, it is now slated for this year. Since the rumors of the new DLC mention “May 2026” as a potential release date, it behooves to consider both releases as a single package coming out on the same day.

We did our due diligence and reached out to CD Projekt Red for any official comment, but given the nature of this news (and the fact that CDPR is naturally secretive with its projects), we doubt they’ll even entertain any commentary on this.

For now, the only official word about the Witcher brand is that the fourth game is in full scale development (although it won’t come out this year) and that a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is a thing — oh, and speaking of Cyberpunk, the anime will also get a sequel.
