Apex Legends Complete Character Release Order & Upcoming Releases (May 2026)

Apex Legends is currently running its 29th season, with the May updates being not only big in scale, but also consistent in bringing some balance for its players.

Developers at Respawn Entertainment chose to proceed on a more careful path this time around, bringing back features that were long thought removed, listening to fan feedback in order to create a more favorable environment for competitive players of all skills and ranks.

Check out our full explainer below to see what you’ll be getting this month.

The primary highlight of May’s Season 29 is Axle, a new, mobility-based Legend that serves as the new addition to Apex Legends’s already impressive roster of 28 characters.

Officially, Axle is a Skirmisher built around a high-speed, movement-heavy playstyle designed to push the boundaries of aggressive engagement. Her kit features specialized Nitro Gates, which allow her to launch into high-speed slides and jumps, providing her team with unprecedented repositioning capabilities.

Additionally, her tactical utility involves a drone used to target and chase down enemies, reinforcing her role as a relentless pursuer in the Ring. Her arrival marks a return to character-focused seasons after several periods dedicated to system reworks and balance.

We did a full breakdown on the new Legend some time ago, which you can read all about here.

Rebalancing for Conduit and Vantage

Simultaneously with the new Legend’s debut, May has brought substantial updates to the kits of Conduit and Vantage to increase their viability in the current high-tempo meta.

Vantage has received a comprehensive suite of quality-of-life and power buffs. Her ultimate sniper rifle now features increased responsiveness in deploy, stow, and ready-to-fire times. The default magnification of her scope has been increased from 3x to 4x, and she now has access to an additional 2x canted sight for greater close-range flexibility. Movement-wise, she is now immune to hard landings when exiting her tactical, and her “Spotter’s Lens” now generates ultimate charge when tracking enemy teams.

Conduit has also seen a utility boost, with her “Radiant Transfer” now possessing two charges. Furthermore, her “Savior’s Speed” passive now grants bonus movement speed when moving toward Skirmisher teammates, specifically rewarding coordination with the newest class additions like Axle.

Deathbox Revives and Chain Healing

Two neat new features that came with the Season 29 update are the Deathbox and the Chain Healing functions. They are both present during matches and promise to completely overhaul certain aspects of gameplay.

  • Deathbox: Players can now revive allies directly at their deathboxes by interacting with them. This mechanic introduces a new risk-reward layer to combat, though the time required to revive increases each time a teammate is downed, with the penalty resetting gradually over the match.
  • Chain Healing: This system allows players to queue up a second healing item before their current one is finished, enabling a seamless sequence of recovery that reduces downtime between items.

Upcoming Releases for 2026-2027

According to the official roadmap put out by Respawn Entertainment, the May update is just another stretch in a long path, where the momentum is aimed at reworking important gameplay aspects in order to prioritize Apex Legends’s ability to stay competitive, regardless of player skill.

Following the Season 29 launch, players can expect a Legend rework in Season 30, accompanied by a major overhaul of the looting system, while Season 31 is slated to introduce a “fan favorite” weapon in an Akimbo (dual-wield) format.

Looking further ahead to February 2027, Season 32 is projected to be a landmark update, featuring the 29th Legend, a major Legend Class system overhaul, and a “nostalgic” major map update.

Granted, Respawn did not offer much more detail other than these little tidbits, so we’re stuck to playing the waiting game for now.

Final Thoughts

The entire May 2026 update shows how Apex Legends still has the capacity to stay competitive in a genre that is facing severe decline. Data from Newzoo states that the battle royale scene has seen a near 30% fall in player adoption and engagement, and even major juggernauts like Fortnite have found themselves struggling.

In Apex’s case, this shows that the battle royale genre still has fuel in the tank, if player feedback is listened to and the updates focus on keeping things fresh.

Apex Legends is available as a free-to-play download, with in-game microtransactions, on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. However, the Nintendo Switch version of the game is shutting down in August 2026
