Enshrouded, the game that Keen Games released in early access in early 2024, is almost ready for its official launch, and it has just received its final major update to wrap up this primary phase.

Referred to as “Forging the Path” (or “Update #8 v.0.9.1.0”), this new content serves as a major milestone for the game, featuring a changelog of approximately 13,000 words. In short, it’s big, focusing on big mechanical changes that affect everything from how you fight enemies to how you organize your base.

Check out our full breakdown below.

Adventure Sharing Lets You Share Your World With The Community

The update’s most prominent addition is Adventure Sharing, which allows players to upload their versions of Embervale for the community to visit.

To support this, the main menu has been reworked with a dedicated sharing interface where players can browse, tag, and download world files. Builders can now craft a camera item to take promotional screenshots of their bases and set specific spawn points for visitors at the Flame Altar.

It is worth noting that, while this is the biggest feature introduced in “Forging the Path,” it is still in its infancy. For now, there are no enemies to fight, no loot to pick up, and the entire experience is limited to a “sightseeing” basis.

We have talked about Adventure Sharing at length elsewhere, including how to access it.

Combat Rework and Advanced Enemy Awareness

Physical combat now utilizes a new resource called “Focus,” which is generated through regular attacks and spent on powerful special abilities. Additionally, all melee weapons (except staffs, for now) have received heavy attacks that deal double damage and increase their impact on enemy stun bars.

The Focus ability is, in simple terms, a finisher. These powerful attacks must first be unlocked in the skill tree before they can be used, so don’t expect access to them right away.

Enemies are also more dangerous thanks to a new “Advanced Enemy Awareness” system. This allows them to enter a “suspicious” state, during which they investigate noise sources before initiating full combat.

And speaking of the skill tree…

Skill Tree Redesign and Gear Progression

Upon installing the update, all of your skill points will be refunded, and your character will be reset to a base state. The reason is simple: the skill tree has been completely redesigned, and the refund allows you to rebuild your character within the new system.

The updated layout includes over 20 new skill nodes, a zoom function, and a centralized position for the Double Jump skill to make it accessible to all classes. Additionally, players can now use runes to upgrade armor, shields, and rings.

These upgrades are specialized. The Blacksmith handles warrior gear, the Huntress manages ranger equipment, and the Alchemist upgrades mage items.

Quality of Life and Early Game Refinements

Several improvements focus on overall player experience. The Quest Log has been reworked to clearly separate main and side quests, making progression easier to track. A new “Quick Stack Station” allows players to automatically deposit materials into nearby magic chests, while the material catalog simplifies building by letting players select resources directly from the UI.

The starting areas near the Cindervault have also been visually enhanced and rebalanced to provide a smoother introduction for new Flameborn players.
