In Ghost of Yotei, charms serve as additional power-ups that improve Atsu’s abilities. From combat advantages to improved resource gathering, charms are a must-have to make your journey easier and tailor your Ghost of Yotei save to your playstyle.
Below are the best charms you should have to make your Atsu even more powerful.

1. Charm of Masaka and Charm of Sukunahikona

Individually, these charms don’t have that much value other than mild situational health boosts. However, when paired, they can save you from a pinch or two when things get dicey. The Masaka charm allows you to gain a minor amount of health whenever you deploy a smoke bomb. The Sukunahikona charm passively replenishes your health while you’re out of combat. If you find yourself in a sticky situation surrounded by enemies and dying, you can deploy a smoke bomb to replenish your health. You can then switch to a stealth approach and slowly regain your health as you are no longer in active combat.

2. Charm of Howling Terror

The charm of Howling Terror is a major Onryo charm that allows you to instakill enemies under the right conditions. The charm allows you to unleash Atsu’s deadly Onryo’s Howl ability for a lower cost. While you gain the ability to instakill enemies quicker, you still need to rack up a substantial streak of kills without getting hit in return.

3. Charm of Hachiman

The Hachiman charm is a melee charm that occupies a major charm slot in your loadout. Though not the flashiest or most complex charm in the game, Hachiman offers an effect that greatly levels up a huge aspect of your melee combat: standoffs. Standoffs allow you to instakill any opponent with a single strike.

The Hachiman charm adds a standoff strike after each successful standoff you perform. This simple but effective perk allows you to thin large numbers of foes and make short work of your enemies.

4. Father’s Charm

Another charm that holds significance to Atsu’s backstory, this defensive charm gives you the ability to regain some health every time you perform a perfect parry. While not the most mind-blowing defensive charm on the list, the sentimental value and its usefulness place the Father’s Charm among the best in the game.

5. Charm of Onryo’s Protection

Kill streaks are a huge deal in Ghost of Yotei. If you go on a roll, cutting down enemy after enemy without taking any damage in return, you gain the ability to perform some of Atsu’s deadliest techniques, like the Onryo’s howl. However, every time you take damage, your streak ends and resets.

With Onryo’s Protection, rather than resetting your streak, receiving damage only minuses two kills from your streak, making it much easier for you to rebuild the numbers and perform those devastating techniques.

6. Mother’s Charm

The Mother’s charm not only greatly increases the effectiveness of some of your ranged weapons, but it also has a nice tie-in with Atsu’s backstory, making it a must-have for any save and especially for lovers of bow and arrow combat. As the name implies, this charm was a gift Atsu received from her mother. This charm greatly increases the damage you deal from arrows. By upgrading the charm, the effects become more potent, eventually becoming a truly powerful and necessary piece of equipment for stealth players.

7. Charm of Futsunushi

The Futsunushi is a major defensive charm that makes parries, perfect parries, and perfect dodges easier to perform. While this may seem simple enough, a lot of your defense in Ghost of Yotei relies on perfect parries, and it can be a bit difficult to get the timing right.

Having a charm that quite literally makes a huge aspect of the game’s combat easier will be a great boon for sure. Finally, paired with something like the Father’s Charm that replenishes part of your health for every perfect parry, making the Futunushi an incredible charm to have equipped.

8. Charm of Mount Yotei

Ghost of Yotei Charms

Despite its description as a minor defense charm, the charm of Mount Yotei is one of the most useful charms you will find in Ghost of Yotei. This charm, similar to Atsu’s armor, reduces any damage you take during combat. With an ability like that, you can rest a bit easier knowing that previously dangerous or threatening attacks no longer have the same effect on you.

Additionally, this charm can be upgraded, which stacks the original effect and gives you an additional ability. On higher levels, you can regain lost health with every perfect parry. Not only do attacks not do as much damage anymore, but the little damage you do take can simply be reversed with a few perfect parries.
