Santa Monica Studio took the stage at PlayStation State of Play to make two major announcements: a God of War original trilogy remake and a new God of War video game. The remake announcement will undoubtedly make most of God of War fans happy as they will get to relive Kratos’ Greek saga on modern consoles. As for the new God of War Sons of Sparta, it is an action-platformer set during Kratos’ youth and training days.
God of War Original Trilogy Remake Development in Early Stage
The unexpected but long-requested God of War trilogy remake announcement was made by none other than TC Carson, the voice actor for Kratos during the Geek saga. He confirmed that the remake is indeed in development, but is currently in a very early stage. This means it will likely take a significant amount of time before fans can get their hands on the remake version. Carson is also confirmed to be the voice actor in the remake.
The teaser video did not reveal anything else, except for showing off the original God of War trilogy game logos. Carson signed off by saying that when they come back next time, they will return with “something big”. The original God of War and God of War 2 were released on PlayStation 2 in 2005 and 2007. The final release for the Greek saga, God of War 3, arrived on PlayStation 3 in 2010. Santa Monica decided to give the series a soft reboot with a switch to Norse mythology and released God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok (2022).
God of War Sons of Sparta Now Available on PlayStation 5: Price and Editions
While you wait for the God of War trilogy remake, there is a new God of War video game in town that you can play right now. Santa Monica has released God of War Sons of Sparta on PlayStation 5. This is a new 2D action platformer that will take you to the early days of Kratos’ life as he undergoes harsh training alongside his brother Deimos. The game has been developed at Mega Cat Studios, a studio well-known for working on retro games.
The new release has TC Carson as the voice actor for Kratos. The game’s combat features spear and shield, along with powerful divine artifacts called the Gifts of Olympus. The studio says its story is canon to the God of War lore and universe. God of War Sons of Sparta is priced at USD 29.99, but you will have to pay USD 39.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition.
