We had Predator, now it’s time for Alien, apparently. According to rumors seen by Insider Gaming, the eponymous horror movie that gave birth to the Xenomorphs is getting a new entry on the gaming part of the media, by way of Eidos Montreal (Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy and Shadow of the Tomb Raider).

According to the rumor mill, this new Alien game has been in development for at least five years, with project start tracking from the height of the COVID-19 pandemic circa 2020. Also, according to the sources heard by the website, it has changed developers multiple times and it boasts an adaptive AI that changes combat approach according to the player’s preferred tactics.

In layman’s terms: do too much of something, and the game will learn how to counter that something so that something will no longer work.

The project was seemingly called “Marathon” at some point, but there’s no reason to think it has anything to do with that other game from Bungie, actually called “Marathon”. Also, it was considered dead/cancelled for some time, but Insider Gaming claims it is still very much alive according to documents dated from early 2025.

Gameplay-wise, this new Alien game will apparently be a mix of “stealth, resource management, and problem-solving, with puzzles ranging from repairing machinery to cracking codes”, with no detail on the plot being offered.

What is known is that the game will take place in a derelict, abandoned spaceship, and you’ll have to contend not only with the titular Alien itself, but also spec ops units that, according to the information available, seem to be hellbent on taking you down for…reasons? We can speculate it’s some kind of Weyland-Yutani clean up crew sent to hush-hush something that went horribly wrong or something…

Finally, documents seen by Insider Gaming mention three characters:

  • Aubrey — supposedly, an engineer that serves as the main character, who uses a grappling hook, magnetic boots and the like.
  • Ryuzo — seemingly the antagonist or one of the antagonists, who uses the abandoned ship like a bunker for himself.
  • Ripley 8 — possibly a clone of the original Ripley from the movies, where the character was played by Sigourney Weaver.

In fact, Eidos Montreal seemingly nurtures a small hope that the 76-year-old New Yorker would return to play the part of Ripley once more, but no additional details were given at this point.

The last Alien games we had were Alien: Dark Descent, a real time strategy title made by Tindalos Interactive that came out in 2023; and the VR experience called Alien: Rogue Incursion, made by Survios for PS5, Meta Quest and Windows.
