Palia, one of the best free MMOs of the year, is set to receive one of its biggest updates yet, as developer Singularity 6 has officially revealed the Royal Highlands Expansion, launching on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
Announced through a special edition of the game’s “Palia Path” showcase, the update is being positioned as the largest Adventure Zone added to the game so far. Alongside a fresh region to explore, players can expect new systems, activities, and long-requested features that significantly expand the overall experience.
At the center of the update is the Royal Highlands, a new area filled with rolling hills, hidden secrets, and a mysterious phenomenon known as the Amber Echo. Players will be able to gather new resources across the region, including minerals, fish, insects, and creatures, while also meeting a brand-new villager named Eshelon.
One of the most notable additions is the introduction of horses, giving players a new way to traverse the world. Beyond simply riding them, players can raise and manage their own mounts on their ranch, adding another layer to the game’s life-sim systems. The update also expands housing, allowing players to level up their Home Plot through the Ancient Human Home Line, alongside new decorative options like the Aristocrat’s Decor set, which leans into a more ornate, rococo-inspired style.
Customization is also getting a boost, with new clothing dye and tint systems offering more ways to personalize characters. Meanwhile, progression systems continue to evolve through the introduction of a new Lunar Path, titled Path of the Pony, which ties into the expansion’s horse-focused gameplay.
The Royal Highlands update also sets the stage for future content. Following its release, Palia will roll into a series of seasonal updates under the Sunkissed Summer banner, bringing additional progression systems and new activities tied to the “Year of the Riffroc.” While details remain limited, the developers have hinted that player ranches may see further expansion in the months ahead.
With a new region, mounts, expanded customization, and ongoing seasonal updates on the horizon, the Royal Highlands Expansion marks a significant step forward for Palia. For both returning players and newcomers, May 12 is shaping up to be one of the game’s biggest updates to date.
