Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially announced that it will host its first major State of Play broadcast of 2026 this Thursday, Feb. 12. The event is set to be a significant presentation, with a confirmed runtime of over 60 minutes.

According to Sony, the showcase will feature a wide array of content, including news, gameplay updates, and new announcements from developers across the globe for the PlayStation 5 (and, while it’s on its last legs, maybe the PS4). This includes contributions from third-party partners, indie studios, and Sony’s own PlayStation Studios.

The broadcast will begin at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT / 10 p.m. GMT) and will be streamed live on PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels. This event marks the first major PlayStation showcase since September 2025, following a smaller, Japanese-focused stream held in November.

Are there any State of Play rumors?

Although Sony did not divulge its content lineup for Thursday, the next State of Play event has already started spinning the rumor mill, with people either claiming to know or wildly guessing things that may or may not be in the stream.

Since we’re not ones to lie to our readers — no, we don’t have the scoop on the event — we’re left doing the latter, so here are our predictions on what to expect on the first State of Play of 2026.

Marvel’s Wolverine

As a game that was, ironically, revealed in a State of Play event from last year, Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine is a highly anticipated project, and considered one of the safest bets for the upcoming showcase. A brief leak on the Latin America PlayStation Store recently pointed toward a third-quarter release window, suggesting the game will arrive between July and September 2026.

Fans are expecting the broadcast to provide a comprehensive look at gameplay following a long period of silence from the developer. Additionally, recent social media teasers from Insomniac have hinted at a potential encounter between Wolverine and Daredevil, fueling further speculation for a story reveal.

Horizon Hunters Gathering

Revealed last week with a plethora of information, Horizon Hunters Gathering marks the return of the Guerrilla Games most famous franchise, albeit in a different setting compared to what we saw in Horizon Forbidden West and its predecessor, Horizon Zero Dawn. This time, Aloy, alongside her longtime friend Erend, leads a group of new, featured hunters in an online cooperative setting.

Basically, the corruption that affects the machines seems to be the main antagonist again, and as Aloy is away doing God know what, it’s up to you to give life to the new hunters (each with their own roles, as its custom for online coop games) in order to push the problem back. Details on the story are somewhat scarce at the moment, but we do know that the game will also contemplate players who like to do solo runs.

At Sony’s next State of Play, we can expect some new, clarifying information about this game.

Saros and Marathon

Housemarque’s roguelike shooter, Saros, is expected to have a major presence given its approaching release date. The title is currently scheduled to launch on April 30, making this 60-minute event the ideal platform for a final deep dive into its gameplay mechanics.

At the same time, Bungie is likely to present a final marketing push for its long-delayed shooter, Marathon. With the game’s launch officially set for March 5, a new trailer or gameplay demonstration is widely anticipated as the project is now less than a month away from release.

God of War 2.5D

There is significant buzz surrounding a rumored new project from Santa Monica Studio that would take the God of War franchise in a fresh direction. Community members and industry observers have pointed to the potential reveal of a 2.5D “Metroidvania-style” title featuring the iconic protagonist.

While Sony has not confirmed such a project, many believe it could serve as one of the show’s major surprises. Because the studio has not released a major update on its current work in some time, analysts suggest the timing is right for a new announcement from the first-party developer.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

Developed by Arc System Works (same guys from this interview), this fighting game was a focal point of Sony’s Japanese-themed broadcast in late 2025. The upcoming State of Play is expected to expand on that showing by revealing new characters and stages for the title’s roster.

Beyond roster updates, the community is looking for a definitive release date for the project. Given the game’s previous prominence in PlayStation marketing, it is expected to be a centerpiece of the 60-minute broadcast.

Starfield for PlayStation 5

One of the most persistent rumors heading into the event involves Microsoft potentially bringing its sci-fi epic Starfield to the PS5. Speculation has intensified with reports suggesting an April release on Sony’s console, which would make a February announcement strategically sound.

If this announcement occurs, it would mark a historic moment as a high-profile Microsoft title debuts during a Sony-branded showcase. This follows broader rumors that other Xbox properties, including a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, may also be destined for a 2026 release on PlayStation hardware.
